The Couple
This couple was just tired of how their house felt. The cabinets were worn out, the wallpaper was from several decades back, and the wood railings on the stairway made the whole place feel older than it needed to. Nothing was falling apart, it just didn't feel like them anymore. They were ready for an update and excited to finally do it.
The Challenge
They talked to a few different construction companies before landing on Big Woods. What made the decision easy was pretty simple: they wanted someone who'd actually tell them the truth. Not just agree with every idea, but say "that'll look great in ten years" or "that one might not age well" when it mattered.
In addition, they really wanted a partner to make sure all the decisions they made worked well together. During construction, having clear communication made all the difference to understanding what would happen next.
Working Together
The cabinet color took some back and forth. Going green on kitchen cabinets is a big commitment, and it's not exactly the safe choice. They landed on Acacia Haze, not one of the standard colors in the cabinet line, but Forever Cabinets was able to match it for a nominal fee. Once the color was locked in, the rest of the decisions got easier, like pairing it with Ash Gray hardware instead of something harsher like matte black or bright silver, which kept the whole look feeling put together instead of jarring.
Brandon and Megan stayed on top of things the whole way through, checking in regularly and keeping every conversation in one spot so nothing got lost in a text thread or forgotten email. For a project touching this many rooms, that mattered.
The Plan
Pretty much every surface got a refresh. New cabinets went in, paired with Cambria quartz counters with some nice natural movement and a tile backsplash with just enough variation to give it depth.
The old carpet came out and LVP flooring went down across the main level, a more neutral, warm beige-leaning choice that'll hold up better over time than something trendier. Doors, trim, and paint got updated throughout, and the wood stair railings were swapped for iron, which gave the staircase a more modern look right away.
The Transformation
The green cabinets ended up being the right call. Paired with the quartz, backsplash tile, and hardware, the kitchen has a look that's bold without feeling like a phase they'll want to undo in a few years. The new flooring and railings tie the rest of the main level together, and the house finally looks and feels like theirs.
They were told 6-8 weeks from demo to done, and that's exactly what it took. No surprises, just a house that finally caught up to how they want to live in their home.
