About Big Woods Construction

At Big Woods Construction, we believe a home should feel like it was built just for you — because it was. That’s why we start every project by listening closely. We want to understand how you live, what’s not working, and what you’re hoping to change. From there, we design and build with care, detail, and a clear plan you can trust.

What It's Like to Work with Us

From day one, you’ll know where things stand. We walk you through the design, budget, and build process in a way that feels organized and approachable. You’ll have a clear schedule, regular updates, and one point of contact who keeps things moving and keeps you informed.

We serve homeowners across Waterloo, Cedar Falls, and the Cedar Valley who are looking for a better experience when building or remodeling their home.

Our Story

We met in high school in 1998 and have been building a life together ever since. We got married in 2005 and are now raising two great kids who keep us busy and grounded.

During those early years, we focused on our careers and figuring out what kind of work we wanted to do long term. Brandon earned a degree in History from the University of Northern Iowa, then spent over a decade working in quality engineering for companies like Kryton Metals, Viking Pump, and John Deere.

Over time, it became clear that working behind the scenes in manufacturing wasn’t where he wanted to stay. The draw toward construction had always been there — hands-on work, clear outcomes, and a direct connection to the people being served. That led to the creation of Big Woods Construction.

Brandon brings a strong background in project management, problem-solving, and precision to every job. What he enjoys most is seeing a project come together and knowing that the finished home reflects the client’s goals and how they actually want to live.

Megan earned her degree in Interior Design from the University of Northern Iowa and has spent nearly two decades working across the industry, from contract and hospitality design to architecture, construction, and manufacturing.

Before co-founding Big Woods Construction, she spent ten years at a large contract furniture manufacturer, leading showroom, technology, and dealer support teams. Her career has always been about combining design with process, and that’s exactly what she brings to every project at Big Woods.

She helps clients make confident design decisions, whether it's selecting materials during a remodel or fully furnishing a space after construction. Her focus on structure and clarity keeps projects moving forward with less stress and fewer surprises. Her goal is always the same: to create spaces that reflect how people really live.

Our Core Values

This is where most companies start to talk about Honesty, Integrity and Quality.

Those buzzwords didn't make it to our Core Values list, just because that's who we already are as people, and as a business. We wanted to go deeper into the purpose of our business.

So you'll find our company values sound a little different.

Have you heard of the term Gem Mint 10? In the world of trading cards, it refers to absolute perfection, in all ways. What started out as a joking response to a question about how a project was looking, Gem Mint 10 quickly became a catch phrase with huge meaning at Big Woods Construction. Here's what it means for you.
